Amsterdam: Accessorize with a Bicycle

As you can see by this video here (thanks Clair!), everyone and their grandma cycles in the Netherlands. It's true. Whether it's one person, or a family of four. Whether they're wearing heels, ballet flats or multitasking. They're cycling. Sans helmets, mind you. And apparently they have a "Sunday Bike" and a regular bike. The Sunday cycle is reserved for weekend excursions, whereas the regular bicycle is for city riding, and in case of theft.

Sometimes the only fashion accessory you need, is a bicycle.

I love those photos. I don't think you can ever see so many people on bicycles in any other country!

Aww the last picture with the children sitting behind the bike is so cute! I also couldn't understand how one could possibly balance an umbrella while cycling?!

Gayatri, thanks for stopping by the blog!
I know, the family together were super cute, and the Dad had his hand on the Mom's shoulder the whole time!

I'm from Amsterdam and it's always funny to see everyone else's fascination with our tendency to ride bikes! Love these pictures!

Looking at these pictures is really making me want to ride a bike again! Sometimes I forget how much fun it can be! :)

[Gets on soapbox] It's definitely not a coincidence that America has absurd rates of diabetes and obesity and is a country that relies on cars for transportation. Beyond getting the opportunity to look adorable on a bike, it's so much healthier. [Gets off soapbox]

The idea of a fancy bike and a basic commuting bike is so charming to me!

I still haven't made it to the Netherlands, and everyone tells me that as a lover of all things bike, it would be heaven. I will forever keep my fingers crossed that someday Boston could have such an elegant bike culture! In the meantime, fixie for me.
